Babies are wonderful!
Many cultures have rituals and ceremonies that welcome a new life into the world.  Baby blessings,
baby namings, christening ceremonies or baptism, are all ways to acknowledge, celebrate, dedicate and
give thanks for the gift of a child.

This can also be a time for parents to honor the commitment and responsibilities to care for the new
child.  Parents dedicate themselves to guiding the new child’s growth spiritually.
A ceremony can create the context through which this recognition can take place.

Stepchildren or adopted children can also be welcomed, blessed and celebrated by their new family
through these same kinds of ceremonies. The entry of any child into a family is a wondrous event!
Some churches administer 'Last rites'.  And some churches believe in Divine healing or 'Annointing of
the sick'.  Many times annointing is requested when the message of "no hope" is delivered by the
medical field. But annointing can take place anytime during a chronic illness.

Starla is an ordained, nondenominational minister.
Though she has had a successful wedding ministry for many years, she feels
she has been called to use her unique abilities for those in need.
She is both professional and tender as grief has touched her life in a very
deep & personal way.
Allow her words to comfort you in this most difficult time.
Coping with death, loss & grief is as individual as each person.
The chief Bible text referencing the rite is James 5:14-15 :
"Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing
him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer of faith will save the sick man, and the Lord will raise
him up; and if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven."
(RSV)
Grief counseling & grief therapy (clinical with the specially trained) are not for everyone and are
not 'cures' for the grieving process.  There are no short-cuts
Counseling & therapy are opportunities for those who seek support to help move from only
coping to finding a new 'normal' in their lives.
**  If grief has lead you to thoughts about suicide, please call immediately your doctor, mental
health clinic or suicide hotline.

Anointing
Annointing is a petitioning to God for Divine intervention; a miracle in the midst of the natural
progression of a disease.  Healing is not always granted.  But it
is a source of comfort & peace.
It is a rite not to be taken lightly.
